1. Preparations
First apply ducktape to line out the edges you're gonna cut along.

Pic 1. Ellis Cut
In the example picture yoiu see 2 tape strips. A long vertical. And a small horizontal.
At the long vertical strip we're gonna cut along the left side of the blue tape. (left)
At the small horizontal strip we're gonna cut along the top of the blue tape. (top)
2. The actual Cutting
The best thing to use for cutting is a angle grinder with a cutting wheel. Start cutting along the edges described above.
Cutting Alternatives: razor blade, electric saw with a fine blade, sawzall,
Dremel tool w/ cutting wheel
CAUTION: Wair safety goggles while cutting
3. Fisnishing edges with Sandpaper
After cutting get some 150 sand paper, rap it around a flat block of wood, and sand it down untill it looks to your likings.
Finishing Up - Perfect Round Edges
Some possibilities:
A. Take a torch or a heat gun, heat the edge (s) you've cut. By heating it up a little you'll see the edges start to round and bring back its royal color. It makes for a really nice, clean and professional, factory looking round edges.
CAUTION:
- Don't let the flame and plastic touch or an ugly black smear of soot will appear.
- Dont heat on one spot to long though.
B. Use fine grid (1000) sandpaper to smooth out the edges
C. Use a Dremel with a sanding wheel on it.
D. Use a die grinder with a 3M pad to smooth it out
